Yes, I started looking at Ontario about a week ago. I can get direct flights from Atlanta and it's cheaper than PSP.

>LAX to Palm Springs site is probably more like 2-2.5 hours depending on Traffic. Could be more. the closest Airport where you are likely to get decent air fares is Ontario, CA (ONT) which is about an 1 to 1.25 hours from Palm Springs.
