Carlos,

I have a really nice snowshovel here at home. It's great for clearing the driveway and walk off when it snows. But it would do a horrible job tring to dig a posthole. It's the wrong tool for the job.

VFP's Report Writer is a powerful tool, but it often doesn't fit the requirements of many of the reports that I need to generate. The VFP development team recognized this, and gave us a whole range of tools to generate reports; the label command, text merge and MS Graph are just a few of the tools built into VFP to meet the requirements of creating reports. That is not an exhaustive list of the report-oriented aspects of the VFP language, and VFP can interact with other products via OLE Automation, DDE, and producing a file that can be processed by another program.

You are correct that the VFP Report Writer isn't able to do everything. Rather than complaining that it's horrible, it might be more constructive to give a list of things that you feel can't be done with it, or are too difficult to do using the tool. A clear, concise statement of the Report Writer's shortcomings from your perspective might give us a chance of suggesting something more appropriate to your needs.

From my perspective, there is no single tool capable of meeting all my report generatiopn requirements. As a result, I use more than one. it thwsame reason that my toolkit has more than just a snowshovel in it - sometimes I have to tighten a loose screw or solder a couple of pieces of wire together. A snowshovel isn't good for either of those tasks.
