You won't need to learn a totally new language. Much of what you know will carry over to VFP. Also, VFP is a much better product for creating database applications. Data manipulation will be much faster and easier to do in VFP. Also, VFP is object-oriented, which VB is not.

Having said all that, you need to evaluate your needs. VB is more widely used and it will probably be easier to find work in VB. If VB can do much of what you need, then it may be the better choice.
