If you move the current project somewhere else or rename it you could use it to know what was in the project that has to be added back to the new one. I have come across that error in the past and what I ended up doing was restoring from a back up and then readding the items I added since the backup. The project became clean again and I moved on. Just to let you know, I took your advice and created a new project. That fixed it, so I'm off and running again.
