I don't have 6.5 installed so I can't duplicate what you seeing. I tried it in 7.0 and SQL Server wouldn't allow me to even create the trigger. It would allow text columns to be manipulated within a trigger.

The problem can't be with the EM. Do you have all the service packs applied?
