I looked at one of my grids where I did the following. In the Grid AfterRowColChange method, I have:

This.Column1.Text1.ToolTipText = trim(MyTable.MyField)

Of course this means the user actually has to move the mouse over the current row in the grid to see the entire value. The form also has to have ToolTips enabled.
