Ed,
I went to my view designer and filter tab set like this.
customer.account = ?lcAccount
customer.saddress = ?lcSaddress
total of 8 filters

when I run my customer form which is a view and from a command button bring in a form that I can use to search I have textbox(s) for account,address, etc If I key in information in the address field and keep the account field blank out of the valid of the address textbox I select my view and requery the view and it will ask me for a account value. Before I select the view I can say lcaccount = '' and I will not get that nasty window ask me for the account value.

My order tab is:
account
sname
last, etc

Is this procedure OK or am I going to run into a performance issue when I have a large amount of data
