Thanks! The update seemed to solve the free table problem. I appreciate your quick response. And yes, I will use the Update() method at the client site. Using the Database Explorer was just an easy way to pinpoint the problem.

I was able to successfully upgrade a data set, however, when I tried to upgrade a couple of other sets, I still got the "Too many variables" error. This time it was line #77 of the DBCXMgr.oSDTMgr.GetDBFStructure(). I believe the tables it crashed on are also free tables. I'm not sure what the difference is between the data set that worked and the ones that didn't.
