Could it be that the user is hitting the ENTER key whick fires the click of a default command button instead of hitting tab to go to the next field? I have had to place This.Value = This.Value in the LostFocus of a control to effect a change in the actual field for field validation purposes. It has been so long ago, I do not remember what the exact circumstance was. But I do know that resolved the problem.
