Arnon Gal-Oz mentioned in another thread that he doesn't use the Data Environment due to speed considerations.

In early 97 I created a framework for myself in VFP 5 in which I also dropped the use of the DE, but I did it to make the use of paths much easier. I always felt somehow I was doing something wrong, even though it worked fine and was actually much easier to do, I coded up the LOAD method to open tables and views from a comma-delimited list.

Arnon, can you offer us any measurements on the effect of losing the DE on form instantiation? What are you doing instead of using the DE? Have you found any inconveniences in not being able to take advantage of containership with the DE?
