What I don't understand is the significance of the BoundTo property. I've seen examples where BoundTo was .F. and yet there was a BoundColumn. I don't get it!

You should use BoundTo=.T. if you bind combo on integer/numeric field. It was a fix applied to VFP5 version, VFP3 does not allow to bind combo directly to integer.
