The since the first Web Servers, there has been Common Gateway Interface (CGI) a facility for dynamically creating HTML pages and other files to be returned by the Web Server. The Web Server calls a CGI Script (program written in any language the can process the parameters and write the outpu to the proper place) through the equivalent to the VFP RUN | ! Command. This is easy to impliment, but starting all of these new processes is a lot of work for the OS, especially for big languages like VFP. To get around this, the Web server vendors came up with way for the Web Server to preload the program. Two of the many ways of doing this, including Netscape Application Programming Interface (NSAPI) and Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI).

Active Data Objects (ADO) is a data source independent cursor object that is implemented as a Common Object Model (COM) object.
