We were using ODBC to create the tables and insert records with transaction control. We then rebooted the system while
Scenario 1: the table was being created.
The database could not be recovered.
Scenario 2: records were being inserted after the table was created.
The database survived.

>are you using .dbf files ? or an ODBC connection ? or something else to access data?

Do you mean normal file system backups? Problems to us with this approach is this could take too long to return our system to a normal state and this requires user attention. May be a UPS could help.
