As much free space as possible. You knew I was going to say that. Temporary disk space is a hard one to answer because it really depends on your queries, etc. For the end user, I recommend 3x the largest table as a minimum. You should also close cursors as soon as you're done with them. I used to do it all at the end of the procedure, function, etc, but I've changed my methods in the last year and disk space requirements have decreased while the speed of the application has increased at the same time.
