I have many large projects in VFP using VSS and the longest time it takes to open any of them is 7 seconds. You say you're a single developer, but are you running this on a network? I've heard several people complain of Novell being real slow. We use NT at the office and it's not much different than mine at home, maybe 10 seconds max. Machine at home is 200Mhz Pentium, (on a 100MBit network, but files local), at office is 300Mhz, AMD K-6, 10MBit network.
All cases we use the McAfee virus scan, NOT the Norton Virus stuff. That was just too slow. (Took about 3 minutes to open the same project that normally takes 7 seconds!)
