>>>I have many large projects in VFP using VSS and the longest time it takes to open any of them is 7 seconds. You say you're a single developer, but are you running this on a network? I've heard several people complain of Novell being real slow. We use NT at the office and it's not much different than mine at home, maybe 10 seconds max. Machine at home is 200Mhz Pentium, (on a 100MBit network, but files local), at office is 300Mhz, AMD K-6, 10MBit network.

>As far as I know, McAfee is doing it's job. It's never triggered on finding a virus. But I did test it with a floppy I have that is known to be infected, and it did tell me about the virus on the floppy. Supposedly, the McAfee checking is testing all my downloads, etc., but I don't notice any significant slow down in file access, even in VSS. It is doing something there, because if I turn it off, my project time is <5 seconds. We recently have made a much larger project by combining several smaller ones together, and my time with McAfee turned on is about 10 seconds, and with Norton turned on it is 4:15! Guess which one I'll be using...

Okay. Thanks for the info. Now I just have to unload norton...
