Jack,
If you're doing something simple in the database development, then Delphi is great. However, once you get beyond the 'drop a control onto a form and connect the datasource' and have to start manipulating the tables/queries programatically, then Delphi is harder to use, because it isn't a specialised database development language as VFP is and this slows down the development. Hence my reference to 'not so RAD'.
In fact, using Delphi & VFP straight out of the box, it's probably quicker (just) to create a simple table maintenance form in Delphi than in VFP, especially as the controls in Delphi show the record contents in design mode.
For my part, I develop in either VFP or Delphi and which I use depends on the level of complexity of the database required. If it's a non-database application then Delphi wins hands down. If it's a simple database then other contraints determine the choice. If it's a complex database then VFP is the language of choice.
I have yet to write an application that uses both VFP and Delphi, but I live in hope!
