< shrug > No, so far as I understand...Enterprise data and data warehousing very much relies on the longevity of data beyond any particular application. I don't know that this is how a majority of development has been done--how many times have I gone into a client and converted their data into my system? Well if we detach the data from the application, which is sorta how I visualize Oracle databases, then the data is most import from all perspectives...not just our clients ;-)

I guess I'm a sudden convert as the day wears on. I think it's helping me to separate tiers. Because, in my extremely remedial understanding...isn't this what a data tier is all about?
