Can anyone tell me for sure if we can include all/any of the icons/bitmaps supplied by MSFT with VFP 3.0, 5.0, 6.0 in distributables AND can we extract and use any common icons/bmps whatever from other MSFT products e.g. Explorer, Word etc.

For now I'm assuming myself that we can use icon/bmp files they supply as separate libraries with a developers product like VFP and that it is NOT allowed to use any other MS-designed icons in distributables. But it is interesting because I don't recall seeing in print anywhere that developers specifically can distribute the icons from MSFT libraries supplied with MSFT developer products, plus some other MSFT bitmaps are either very simple or ubiquitous, e.g. the 'Back' arrow, the 'Home' house, the 'Print' printer etc. Presumably MSFT would nonetheless claim copyright over these simple or ubiquitous icons. However I may not be too far out in guessing thay would prefer our distributables to stick to the Windows Interface Guidelines so... maybe... they do allow us to use certain icons from their own products like those???

There is a discussion on icon copyrights in 'The Icon Book' ISBN 0-471-59901-8 by William Horton, John Wiley and Sons Inc., 1994. While it may be picky I'd like to be sure that I understand the icon copyrights on at least the files MSFT supply to us.

Any ideas?

Dick
