I removed the space in the table name. Didn't help my problem, but you're right that I never should have had table names with a space. The cursor didn't work and I no longer remember why.

After calling Microsoft, found out I did not have exclusive set to off. However, that didn't help either, although it probably cleaned up some other things. They also said my Excel error was that I didn't have the most recent service pack installed. That solved the Invalid operation crash for me.

What does work is this: To have the report that uses the Finance_report view in its DE. To have another duplicate view I called Finance_Excel as part of the DE of the form from which the reports are selected. It may not be slick, but it works, and that's fine with me.
