>I need a basic explaination on how/why anyone would do this. I have an app that I might be interested in making web based, but I can't quite grasp the concept of the active document. Is this essentially like an OLE object in the browser? If I put this thing on a web server with a bunch of people coming at it from different locations with different drive mappings and etc; how would it know where the data is? Will it launch as many sessions of foxpro as there are people viewing the data? I don't really want to re-write my app as Active server pages, but I don't follow the underpinnings of the active document. Thanks in advance.

I think Active Documents might be a good fit for a closed Intranet. It requires the runtime files and the application to be loaded on the workstation. If you truly want web based, look Rick Strahl's Web Connection. It is a great product, he offers great support via the web (including an offline newsgroup reader written VFP) and the price is very cheap considering what you get. check out his site at www.west-wind.com
