Am I correct in assuming that since they already have the printer and toner, all I need in my VFP6 app is the correct font and layout ?

In all likelihood the MICR font comes from a font cartridge which is physically inserted into a slot in the HP printer. You invoke the font from your report by putting the appropriate PCL commands, as a string, in front of and in back of the fields you want to appear as MICR. The manual that came with the font cartridge should tell you what codes to use.
