Thanks. I actually did that in a way. I took a backup of the table (from Friday) and REPLACEed ALL the memo fields with "". Then I copied over that 512K FPT file over the corrupt one. The table opened. I was then going to use the backup to restore some of the memos (we would have still lost any memos since the backup). Fortunately, I discovered that VFP will repair the memo file (in this case) when the error handler handles the error in the default manner.
