>Are applicants to pretend that FP/VFP never existed?? If an applicant were to say something like 'yea, I bought Bob and thought it was pretty cool, but I guess it was just a bit ahead of its time', would that person be told to shut up about it and be sure not to mention it????

That's what was implied

>When asked I am happy and proud to tell an interviewer that I can claim Autocoder, COBOL, Fortran, OS Assembler etc in addition to the more 'modern' languages. Frankly, I just wouldn't heed the advice given in this case, and if it meant not getting a job, then so be it. It is stupid advice, more indicative of a 'siege mentality' or an 'historical revisionism' bent and I doubt that I would want to work in such an environment.

He wants the job -- he's not going to mention it.

>If this attitude is truly prevalent around Microsoft in general, then they are in far deeper trouble than I ever would have guessed.

Around the MSFT campus, I suspect a FoxPro/VFP would return shrugs -- I suspect most within MSFT don't even realize what FoxPro is. MSFT Consulting and the sales departments, however, it appears to be a different story.
Integrity, integrity, integrity!
