I think that MS is not willing to promote VFP because: It will burden the sales of SQL-server. They now will say "Hey if Access is too limiting you should look for SQL-server". As we all know, from a commercial point of view SQL-server is far more important than VFP, certainly if we look into the future when a major battle is going to take place (SQL-Server vs Oracle).

I think, in many cases where a Server RDBMS is used, you could replace the system with VFP without many difficulties.

On the other hand, i don't think they will drop VFP. the VFP community is strong and still (believe it or not) growing. Just look at the other XBase languages: VFP is the only one which future is relatively sure. Clipper, Visual Objects an DBASE already died, Visual DBASE will follow soon in my opinion.
