As with anything you need to look at the whole picture. What's important?
Speed?
Security?
Stability and data integrety?
What's your application environment? Many n-Tier applications in particular
take away many of the requirements of a SQL Server backend, because the
middle tier and data are 'close' and in a very controlled server environment.
I would urge anybody to look very carefully at the situation before making a move to SQL Server. In a server environment you're likely to loose at least
half of your performance (more is likely) when moving from VFP to SQL Server.
Stability is a good point to consider. Fox data has a tendency to need
maintainence (indexes rebuild, data packed etc) or get corrupted. But with
proper maintainence it can be very stable. SQL backends aren't perfect either.
I've seen my share of scrambled SQL partitions that were beyond repair.
