Not having discussed this issue with Barbara, I may be off track but what occurs to me on this subject is the situation such as in the following scenario. Suppose, as I think Barabara suggests, I am browsing through my new messages and come across a thread that appears to be of particular interest which is also apparently "live" or currently active, ie, seems that real-time to-and-from messages are coming in on the subject as I am reading it. Now if, at this point, I have not reviewed the remaining messages below this message in the new message list then in this situation, in order to read the follow-up incoming messages "attached" to this thread and I would have to click on the "Get new Messages" icon thereby "wiping out" the remaining - and as yet unread - messages. Hence I then have to logout and relog on with clicking the little box on the sign-in page to retrieve those remaining messages in order to now read them. The alternative is that I have to read all my messages first and then return to the thread of interest, however if there are a great number of other messages to read, by the time I can return to the thread of interest it may be that the moment to participate directly in an "interactive" mode has now passed.
In other words, the way things are now, a click on "Get New Messages" assumes that I have read all I want to read when in fact I may not have actually done so - and speaking for myself, I have inadvertently clicked on the "GNM" icon before I should have so this may not be something that "bugs" Barbara alone but may also impact others apart from Barbara and myself - or are we just "au contraire?" Mon dieu!! I don't know if my explanation helps or muddies the issue but it sure felt good at the time <g>. /psb.
