Well, they really are completely private, but even before VFP, a table opened exclusively on one networked computer prevented everyone else on the network from opening the same table. That's about as private as you can get. The beauty of the Private DS is the ability to open the same form multiple times without having to code for USE xx AGAIN ALIAS yyy, or using the same table multiple times in different forms. Another benefit is meeting a different relational need in one form without affecting a relation set by another form. But EXCLUSIVE still means *it's mine all mine and you can't have it [not even read-only]!* :)
