Hi Dave,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you.

>There is only one "real" control for each column and it's in the ActiveRow, the other rows are just "painted images" of the control.

I've figured this out. To me, it is a real killer. It makes grids mostly useless. Especially the feature of putting different controls in them. Compare and contrast with Powerbuilder equivalents.

>If you have the cbo RowSource=thisform.maMachineTypes, RowSourceType=array, >BoundColumn=2, BoundTo = .t., ControlSource=table.field it should work just >fine. I'm not sure what you are doing with the calculated field, you can always >just make that a column of a view that you use for the grid.

Unfortunately for me, it's not that simple. The real index into the cbo is a combination of fields. It wasn't my data design, but for legacy reasons, I have to live with it. That's the problem, combining fields to use the cbo in a grid.

Thanks again for your help!

Bob.
