It is interesting to hear the request to turn off the progress bars during the SQL select -- my customers like them, since they are not totally random, but appear after ( 1000 milliseconds or so into the select ). What I did is the inverse of what you want:

Set talk on
Select...
Set talk off

I have read the thread so far, but this has worked consistantly for me ( VFP 6.0 ).
