Thank you for your patient and detailed reply. Your suggestion for selecting a column was one that I thought I had tried, Evidently not, though, since it works for me now. Also, your explanation about translating VBA code into VFP helped a lot. Still, I have much more to learn.

I think part of my difficulty relates to a version problem, since some of the code posted here as working for others is not working for me.
