SF is not that far and the drive isn't bad if you have air conditioning. I am going on Alaska, round trip for $166.
I don't know why they never have it in the SF Bay area. Families would have plenty to do. Transporation is very good. Granted, SF would be outrageously expensive, but there are great places down the peninsula, Santa Clara, San Jose, all reasonable, probably less than Palm Springs. You would be in the middle of everything computer. Microsoft's newest headquarters are in Mountain View. They are building an incredible complex. The weather almost never gets above 90 or below 50.
