>I have been watching the WINE (WINdows Emulator) development a little lately and was wondering if anyone here has tested VFP on it or has an iterest in it? I am seeing more posts about Linux on this Forum and was wondering if there is a growing interest among VFP programmers to move in that direction.
WINE is starting to get commercial backing from people like Corel so I believe that development will start to really run in the upcoming year. I have not personally tried WINE in about a year now and it was still having trouble with running just Solitaire back then. People have said they have successfully got some very serious games running under WINE (eg. StarCraft and Unreal). These are some pretty nice accomplishments if you ask me.
Alternatively, vmware (
www.vmware.org) has recently been released as a Preview/beta. This product is commercial but it allows you to run several operating systems in a virtual machine. They have released the trials for Linux and NT 4.0 and you can boot Windows 95, 98, or NT within Linux virtual machine so you could run pretty much anything in it (obviously it will be slower). The hardware requirements are quite stiff.
