>Has anyone heard of any problems building 2.6 apps on a Windows 98 machine?
Aside from the problems getting FPW 2.6 to run on hardware with a processor speed above 333MHz (there are a number of workarounds, none of them 100% successful), I'm not aware of anything specific to Win98. You may run into video driver problems with specific cards under Win98, but that'd be the extent that I'd expect to see anything.
It's a fine working environment for FPDOS, BTW, which doesn't have the sensitivity to Windows drivers that FPW had, and doesn't seem to have the speed problems related to the Watcom/Phar Lapp memory manager used by FPW. I still use it at work for some queries and reports that are not date-sensitive and which seem to be quicker under FPDOS, where I can exploit native printer fonts and access features like laser printer macros to get graphics in place easily without the need for any Windows print drivers.
We use an FPDOS app for printing pick lists at our remote warehouses; we upload the work for the day and format the pick lists using a program that hasn't changed in better than 5 years, and the machines running the remote printing app are 'retirees' from our main site - a P100 with 16MB of RAM and Win95 is more than adequate as an FPDOS printing platform and to send and receive email where they wouldn't be suitable for our main office applications, where our 'minimal' machines for our customer service and accounting applications are P200MMX systems with at least 32MB of RAM, and the operating system is Win98 or NT Workstation.
