guys all thnaks for the replies but i have tried all the things you said.But the problem of the combo covering the text on selection disappears when the boundcolumn property of the combo inisde the grid is set to false.

i cannot leave the boundcolumn set to false since i would get the listindex number instead of the actual data value.

i am starting to think that this is a bug in vfp5.
