In addition to what Jim and Ed said, the 2GB limit is caused by the locking mechanism used for locking records. At the 2GB limit, are shadow records that don't really exits. It is the shadow records that are locked when a user locks records. This is the solution to the inability to read records locked by another process on some operating systems. When 64 bit VFP is released, larger file sizes will be supported.
