Actually, it's more in some applications. Whenever possible, use some currency for internal storage and calculate any value entered into that currency. But some application require the exact value. For example, currencies tend to change their value quite rapidly, there are rounding problems that lead to different totals, etc. Real multi-currency applications are not that easy. :)
