Hi Paul ---
I'm at a disadvantage here: no accesss to VFP or VFP manuals. But I thought that the Desktop property was .F. if contained in _screen and .T. if Windows. Now, the modal form is a requirement of the system and
until I launch that modal form my Close button is fine.
And yes, my top-level form is a Top-Level form. And there is nothing wrong with a cocky novice, especially if he can enlighten a surly veteran :-D

>I believe the default setting for .DeskTop used to be .T. (contained in _Screen), but it's changed to a default of .F.. That was, in part, why I asked. Whereas you say you haven't done many top-level forms, that's *all* I've done, and (while I don't use modal forms) I've never seen a form where .Closeable = .T. and yet the 'X' is greyed.

>At the risk of sounding like a cocky novice, how sure are you that your top-level form is actually top-level? Aside from a coding problem or bug in VFP, my best guess would be that focus is being returned to _Screen...
