Can anyone give me some tips or point me towards some references so that I can better manage the upgrading and replacements of computers we use? Our VFP (and VB) apps and MS Office drive what are our minimum computer configs and ideal configs for users.

So far there seems to be a pattern that we replace computers every 4 to 5 years and upgrade them (usually RAM and hard drive space) every two years.

The problem is that management here is not very computer literate and they are always shocked by my needs (the users' needs) to upgrade and replace computer equipment. Money is also very tight in Canadian healthcare (especially for things like computers). I guess what I am looking for is examples of how others manage and replace computers and what is a reasonable timeframe to do this in. What would be really great is if there are any books, papers, case studies...

In addition, how do you work with management to get buy in that a planned computer asset management is necessary?
