Robert: this is an aside to your above referenced frustrations re files beginning with numerics and is prompted by your last comment about using pkunzip.
If by "reorganizing" you also will be avoiding the need for zipping then maybe this comment has no value to you, however I have found that using the zip/unzip utility that is included with Norton Utilities for WIN NT works reliably, quickly and very smoothly, no "flashing" <g> (see previous thread on 'too fast' last week) as an alternate to "pk*.exe". While I admit this doesnt't solve the number rename problem the shell out to DOS route may be the best alternate for that action since most users are probably familiar with that routine anyway and you would then be 'flashing' them only once if this Norton option for zipping was better for you than licensing either winzip or pkware - you get some extra goodies any way and I really like their file manager - much better than the standard M$ utility. :) Best. /psb.
