If you don't worry about the speed, what other implications the size may have? You may pack the table (if you use it on permanent basis for long time, i.e. it's not temporary, eh :-) once a week or nightly and it should be Ok.
Again, if you want to pack the table anyway and exactly when it's opened in grid (why not to do it then in Form.Load event ?) it's still doable as I told you in the first reply.
