As long as everyone's throwing in their $.02, I'll add mine... so what is that, about $2.98 now? :)

I am one who placed my name on the list the first time I heard of this effort. And yes, I even agreed to financial support if necessary.

The important thing to remember is that I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY SENT IN ONE RED CENT and of course, would not unless this effort becomes a viable, sensible and well thought out presence.

I voiced my desire to be a member, as I'm sure many did, because it SOUNDS like a great idea with the potential to bring some awareness to the tool we all use. This is my hope, and if there's movement in that direction... I'm there to help with time, money, whatever...

It's important for the organizers to know what kind of membership / support they have ( or don't have ) in order to proceed. My 'signing on' was purely to provide that info. Another supporter IF THE VFPDA SHOWS THE ABILITY TO BECOME A POSITIVE / VIABLE ORGANIZATION.

If not, then I guess there'll be a few people saying "I told you so".

So join up, or don't, but at least give this brand new effort some time to come up with answers to all of the questions. Geez, what's it been a whole month or so? If anyone has built this type of organization in that time-frame (while doing other paying work) let them offer solutions, otherwise, just hold on and allow this thing to come together.

>Stephen,

>You can do all of this today.... Software Dev had a great review of VFP. If you wan't to write something, write it. Why do you need a VFPDA to do it? What weight would this bring to an editor. Ultimately, an editor's responsibility is to publish material of interest to the readership.

>Tell me, should we now have feature articles on VB in FoxPro Advisor?????

>You have yet to convince me why we need a VFPDA, and more importantly, why I should have to pay money to join it...... You keep dodging the money question on my part...

>>Now writing for Oracle Mag might not be the best first attempt at getting published, but Software Developer, MSJ, Dr. GUI, NY Times, Wall St. just to name a few.
>>
>>Writing is good.
>>
>>How about a web presence that contains:
>>Lists of "mission critical apps"
>>Conversions from Access where data got to large to handle
>>Different Back end sources
>>A ROI for SQL Server proposal
>>
>>Other people can chime in with their wishes and wants.

>>>
>>>To write articles, no, you don't need MS's approval. However, if all you are going to do is write articles, you can do that today.....right?
>>>
>>>>Even if the articles are not published, I could use them in the >internal/external sales proccess, sure.
>>>
>>>What value to the sales process is an article that has not been published????? It is the publishing process that gives the piece credibility.....right? I am not saying that valuable content is not in the piece. The goal of an article should be two things:
>>>
>>>1. To convey good and accurate technical information that has an audience.
>>>
>>>2. To get published.
>>>
>>>I can tell you right now, a VFP article would not get published in Oracle Magazine. At least, I am 99.99% sure of that. Why would the technical editor of the magazine devote 2-4 pages that is of little to no interest to their readership. It is not the job of a technical editor to provide content that you, I , or anybody else things is cool. Rather, the editor's job is to publish relevant technical material. Relevant in this case being defined was what the general readership is interested. Otherwise, the magazine provides no value. This is why 100's of technical publications exist.
>>>
>>>So, to expend the effort write an article that has little to no shot of getting published makes zero sense.
>>>
>>>Just my 2-cents...
