>I believe this is related to the 64K segmenting of the Intel processors. Coding for Intel in Assembly is a pain compared to the Motorola series of processors where you had straight memory mapping.
This issue dissapears with the proteced mode adressing that was introduced with the '385 processors. The good atributes of segmentation still exist (separate code, data, stack segments) but the segment size is increased from 64k to 4 gig. It is a mistake to confuse real mode addressing modes with protected mode addressing.
