I have avoided the problem in runtime primarily by getting rid of *any* code that references the screen AFTER the READ EVENTS command, for example ZOOM WINDOW SCREEN MAX or anything like that.

Also, I noticed that ON SHUTDOWN READ EVENTS would kick off the problem, but ON SHUTDOWN DO shutdown IN myutils.PRG where I shut down in a UDF would work fine.

You can get around this problem for the most part with these tips.
