Hi, Duke! I was about to ask a similar question about other programmers experience with Crystal reports. Robert Hollinger's response is very favorable. I think we'll give that product a try. I usually don't like to depend on too many third party add-ons, but the VFP report writer is weak.

Regarding separation of reports and filters -- we never save the filter with the report. Many reports we design can accommodate a wide range of selection criteria, sort orders, and summary or detail options. In other words, a single report form can provide many variations that the clients wants. A form is used to collect the users preferences and formulate the SQL query. Some variables referenced by the report form are set that specify the title for the report and the expression used to break the report into groups.
