Your right, the output and generation of the excel report is slow. You'll have to see what the users think.

There are ways to improve things. You could have a report template that has the headers and static data already loaded, maybe even the formatting. You could also use datatoclip to copy groups of data in one command. It's the between application calls that slow things down. The fewer there are, the faster it will go.

I only use Excel when users want the data in spreadsheet so they can then manipulate it, do charts or email it to others. It's hard to find a way to email a fox report (although using a PDF print driver is a good choice.)
