>I'm sorry I don't remember his name or exact title (never paid attention to it in first place I guess), but he is the "East Coast SQL Server Head" for Micorost. He definitely knew his stuff and has a pretty major job. (If you "rumour haters" need a name I'll go look it up)

>He asked whatI did, and pretty soon we were talking about VFP. I asked him how VFP "fit in to all this". His comment was (near quote) - "Foxpro - geez - every time we try to kill it, there's too many VFP programmers out there and they're really loyal ..." . BTW - The "every time we try to kill it" part is an EXACT quote

>Now you can take that good or bad or both. I think it illustrates what we all already know - MS does not WANT VFP - but the sheer number and dedication of the developers/users (us) FORCES them to continue to support it. That's a tough boat for us to be in. what it means - and as I have predicted before - is that they will "minimally support it" while hyping SQL Server, VB, VC++, and even Access until enough people attrition away from VFP that they CAN kill it.

For heaven's sake, Ken! If you're going to quote a Microsoft heavy with that sort of Fox-is-dead-it-just-doesn't-know-it-yet statement, you dang well BETTER get his name, title, office phone, e-mail, superior's name and e-mail, everything but his shoe size. (Actually, you'd better get that, too, since this guy looks like he put his foot in his mouth in a big way!)

I wouldn't expect a speaker on SQL-Server to speak too highly of FoxPro, or even to be particularly knowledgable about it's use and future development. I would take what he said with a grain of salt, albeit not a large a grain as a report from someone's brother's mother-in-law's third cousin who knows someone who works as a janitor at Redmond, as some of the reports on this forum have been.

I'm starting to think that we should all be wired for sound at these conferences, and the recorders should be turned on AFTER the formal training session has ended. Comments made in hallways, over lunch, or "off the record" are what the Microsoft marketing and educationpeople really think, not the scripted lessions they present.

Please note, this is NOT me saying that Fox is dead. I'm simply reminding people that if statements of the above nature are going to be reported, get as much accuracy as possible in both the text of the statement and the qualifications of the speaker.

Getting off the subject...how's the weather in Toronto this weekend? These Fox conferences need to get their priorities straight: Phoenix or Florida in the winter and early spring, Minnesota and Toronto in the summertime. The last time I went to Ontario in April, Niagara Falls was frozen! Oh, well. FoxTeach isn't meant to be a vacation (despite what my ex-boss thinks).
