Hmmmmm... is there *any* possibility at all that what was coming over the wire was DATA and not INDEX stuff. If it was, then this nagging memory I have about NODATA applying only to REMOTE might still hold. Boy, do I wish that VFP docs told us (much) more than they do!!!

Cheers,

Jim N

PS I will be heading to the local MAG store tonight to get it (only one I found here which carries it, and way out of the way too).

>>But... the docs imply (I can even say 'state', I believe) that *ONLY* the structure is obtained when NODATA is specified. That would mean that *no* index data would be sought, as I read things.

>i guess the docs are wrong. there's a utility called netwatch that the author (chris probst) used to monitor the network traffic when he opened views. according to his research, even when a view is opened nodata, some of the index is pulled over the wire.
