Just in case any of you were considering Y2KFOX as your FoxPro 2.6 Y2K solution, you may be interested in my very recent experience. I was made aware of this product last year. I was quoted $399.00 by Communication Horizons for a 20 pc licence on a few different occasions. I put this on the back burner knowing that I had a solution when I needed it. My date problems really start when the year 2000 turns, so, I had the balance of 1999 to act. In the meantime, I have been working on the redevelopment of my 2.6 system in VFP. I was possibly hoping to get the 2.6 system re-written in VFP in time for the year end but, the job just keeps getting bigger and it appears to be unreasonable to gamble on completing a new system in time. Therefore, I took a very recent decision to stick with the 2.6 system beyond the year end and, make it Y2K compliant with Y2KFOX.

Yesterday, I decided to order Y2KFOX only this time, I thought I would take advantage of the PUTM discount of 10% (I joined in January'99). Remember that Communication Horizons quoted me numerous times upto December'98 a sum of $399.00 for a 20 pc licence. I thought I would get this, less 10%. I tried to place my order yesterday on this basis but was told by Communication Horizons in no uncertain terms that the prices they quoted me were "INTRODUCTORY". The new price for a 20 pc licence is now $995.00 ! When I pointed out to them that nowhere had they specified that they were quoting introductory prices and that there were current ads in FPA quoting "starting from" $399.00, they dropped the price to $399.00 plus postage but with no PUTM discount for a 10 pc licence only. When I asked them to agree the original price/licence number, they have re-quoted me $995.00, a 250% increase, with a message to the effect that if I can recode my app cheaper, go right ahead. This sort of attitude is a poor show indeed. I've seen other products at in introductory price of say, $495.00, increasing to $595.00. However, $399.00 to $995.00 is some increase.

The point of this message is that if any of you, like me, had put this product away as a likely solution at a quoted price, you will likely find that the price has increased way beyond what you thought it was.

All I can say is that inflation Stateside must be running at 250% <g> or else, someone is jumping on the Y2K bandwagon. Microsoft are accused of profiteering but at least they maintain a reasonably consistent pricing policy.

It may be worth checking pricing with Communication Horizons if you had this product earmarked as your Y2K solution for FoxPro. I for one, just can't afford this absolutely massive increase.
