I didn't go to the conference, but have attended all but the second Devcon and know John Peterson personally. Yes, he is as good as he thinks he is. He has been a presenter at Devcon and also presented at Tech Ed last year(which I also attended.) He is also a pretty good author and my experience has been that he is a person willing to help others when asked.
